Beginning My D&D 4th Edition Journey

Well, as you’ve probably guessed, both Shawn and I enjoy playing Dungeons and Dragons. Unfortunately, my recent tabletop gaming has been rather sparse, as the majority of my gaming group has moved away. Consequently, I haven’t yet had a chance to actually put Wizards of the Coast’s latest release, 4th Edition, through the proverbial wringer.

Luckily, I was involved in a conversation with a friend this week who mentioned that he’d like to get a group going again. I decided then and there that I would seize the opportunity to get my first chance to play 4th Edition. Since then, I’ve spent my spare time reading through the material closely, constructing story arcs, generating loot, and building out random encounters.

To be honest, I had forgotten just how much damn fun running one of these games was. As I’ve delved further into the material, I’m finding a lot to like on the surface of 4E. My players are happier because they feel they have more abilities and hit points than in past editions (never mind that damage has been ramped up as well), and I am happy because the construction of encounters, loot, and other necessities has been streamlined from previous editions.

I’ll be talking more about my campaign as it unfolds, so stay tuned. I’ll also let you know how my 3.5 D&D group fares in 4E. It should be fun to watch, if nothing else.
