David Jaffe always seems to be popping up in the gaming news. For a long while it was due to his excellent work on the God of War series, and more recently, it’s because he has something to say that is usually worth reading.
In an interview with 1UP, Jaffe has let on that he would really like to do an Indiana Jones adventure game. The interviewer alluded to some similarities between the God of War titles and Indiana Jones, and Jaffe responded,
Well, there was, and will always remain until I get to do it, a desire to work with Indiana Jones in the interactive medium. I would still to this day love to do that. But really, I can’t express, to the point that it borders on the absurd and potentially disturbing, the importance of Indiana Jones — and specifically Raiders of the Lost Ark — to my sort of creative development. So certainly, those movies, and specifically Raiders, are really important to me. And I think there was certainly intentional homage paid — we knew we were making our own game, our own character, our own setting — but there was definitely a sort of tip of the hat to Indy and sort of that great movie that Raiders was, absolutely.
Jaffe was then asked if he thought he would ever actually get to make an Indy game, and he replied,
Well, I mean there’s nothing planned right now. A lot of it has to do with, you know, what happens in the future. Do I think I will ever? I don’t know. I have a great idea for how LucasArts could really take that property and do cool things with it, and if they’re reading this, they should give us a call at Eat Sleep Play. We’d love to talk to them.
The idea of Jaffe developing Indy gives me goosebumps. He’s obviously got the platforming and puzzle aspects down cold. All he needs is to replace the Blades of Chaos with a whip and a Webley revolver. That could present gamers with the best incarnation of our favorite archeology teacher that has ever been seen. After all, Jaffe’s proven out in most everything he’s tried. Now if I could just get George Lucas around to my way of thinking…
